Schatzi Lovett: 1927 ~ 2018

Schatzi Lovett, a former resident of Three Rivers, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, in Bakersfield. She was 90.

A private burial will be held today (Friday, Feb. 9) at Three Rivers Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m., at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. A luncheon reception will follow.

Schatzi was born July 16, 1927, to Maximillian and Dorthea Maier in Pasadena, Calif. The following year, Schatzi moved with her family to Germany where she spent the next four years of her childhood before returning to Pasadena.

Schatzi attended Pasadena City College and graduated in 1945 before marrying her first husband, Charlie Black. Charlie and Schatzi had two children, Gary and Kelly. In 1957, Schatzi married the love of her life, George Lovett, and they had two children, Greg and Beckie.

George and Schatzi began raising their four children in Three Rivers. In 1963, they moved to Visalia, where Schatzi worked for the U.S Postal Service. She was the first female mail carrier in Tulare County.

In 1968, Schatzi started her dream job at Tucoemas Federal Credit Union. As a membership service supervisor, she had the opportunity to talk to everyone who came in the office. Anyone who knew Schatzi would know why this was a perfect fit.

During their retirement years, George and Schatzi traveled the continental U.S. with their Dodge truck and fifth-wheel trailer. After a few years of traveling, Schatzi convinced George to build a 254-space RV park with a clubhouse called Park of the Sierra in Coarsegold, Calif. The Park is thriving today as a nonprofit co-op for RV’ers.

After George’s passing in 1998, Schatzi continued to travel in her RV. At the age of 80 she traveled to China and climbed the Great Wall.

Signing off, Schatzi would say Go Dodgers!, Paul Harvey (“the rest of the story”), Dessert First every time, and be sure to find younger friends.

Schatzi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, George; son Gary; and her sister, Barbara.

Schatzi is survived by three children, Kelly Black, Greg Lovett and wife Paula, and Beckie Diltz and husband Robert; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;  four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
