Martha Stout: 1927 ~ 2016

Martha Ann Stout died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at her Visalia home. She was 89.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m., at Community Presbyterian Church in Three Rivers.

Martha was born January 27, 1927, in Oswego, Kan., to Lloyd Romine and Mildred Lee. Her childhood was spent growing up with her sister, Lottie, in Las Vegas, Nev., after the family moved there during the Great Depression. Their father worked on the construction of Hoover Dam, which provided work at the time for thousands who desperately needed jobs.

Martha and her husband, Al Stout, retired to Three Rivers and built their dream home overlooking the Kaweah River. There they hosted many parties, including their annual Sourdough Pancake Christmas Brunch.

Never one to sit still, Martha was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church and a member of the Three Rivers Woman’s Club, Three Rivers Senior League, Redbud Garden Club, and numerous bridge clubs.

Martha and Al enjoyed many RV trips through the years, traveling the U.S. and fishing and camping with loved ones.

Although a resident of Visalia for the past decade, in her heart Martha remained a resident of Three Rivers.

Martha is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Al Stout;  son Stephen Taylor and wife Kim of Fresno; son Jeffrey Taylor of Three Rivers; son Steven Lee Taylor of Fresno; son David Taylor of Bogota, Colombia (South America); granddaughter Katherine Ann Anderson and great-granddaughter Aubrey Leigh of Rancho Santa Margarita; grandson Eugene Taylor, wife Jena, and great-grandsons Leo and Max of Sweeney, Texas; and daughter (of her heart) Sue and husband Jack Yandell of Montclair; as well as many friends who Martha loved and considered as family.

In lieu of flowers, Martha requested that donations be made to Valley Oak SPCA (29010 Highway 99, Visalia, CA  93277; or vospca.org/participate/donate).
