Gwendolyn May Warner of Three Rivers passed away in Visalia on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was 98.
Gwen was born May 19, 1919, in Brighton, England, to Frank and Elizabeth Standing. Gwen (or “Twink” as she was known to her family) immigrated to Canada with her family in 1920 and subsequently to the United States as a young child. The family settled in Michigan, where Gwen grew up, attended schools, and married her high school sweetheart.
In 1946, after World War II, Gwen and her husband, Guy, moved to California. They settled in Southern California where Gwen continued to live until 1991, when she moved to Three Rivers to be closer to family.
Gwen was a secretary, office manager and, most importantly, a devoted wife and mother. She was guided by a strong moral compass, work ethic, and sense of responsibility and loyalty.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, knitting, and spending time with family. She shared these interests by making quilts for hospitalized children, knit caps for infants, and as a Girl Scout leader.
Gwen was generous with her time and money, contributing to many charities and volunteering with several organizations, including the California Native Plant Society.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Guy; her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Standing, and her sisters, Joyce Warde and Eileen Malmgren.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Warner-Huggins, and husband Arle of Ridgway, Colo.; son Tom Warner and wife Linda of Three Rivers; three granddaughters Daniela and husband Craig of Bournemouth, England, Sheri of Ridgway, Colo., and Tina of Puyallup, Wash.; two grandsons, Jedediah Warner of Three Rivers and Isaac Warner and wife Katie Rose of Three Rivers; and her great-grandchildre, Alice and Douglas Warner of Three Rivers.
