Denelle Perce Stroh, who lived in Three Rivers nearly all her life, died Monday, July 4, 2016, in Visalia. She was 88.

Denelle was born February 27, 1928, in Fresno, Calif., to Darrell and Nell Perce. She was raised in Ash Mountain and Three Rivers, spending her summers in the Lodgepole area of Sequoia National Park.

Denelle attended Three Rivers Union School, Woodlake High School, and College of the Sequoias in Visalia.

While working in the personnel office at Sequoia National Park, she met Bill Stroh, who was also working for the National Park Service. Denelle and Bill were married April 17, 1948.

The couple built, owned and, for many years, operated the Canyon Lodge Motel (present-day Sequoia Village Inn) near the entrance to Sequoia National Park. In 1958, Bill built the couple’s home on the Kaweah River, just down the road from the motel.

Bill and Denelle enjoyed skiing at Wolverton each winter and sharing the best swimming hole in Three Rivers with friends during the summers.

Denelle was a charter Three Rivers Ambulance volunteer, serving in this capacity for 20 years. She was also the organization’s bookkeeper for five years.

From 1973 until her retirement in 1990, Denelle was the business manager for Sequoia Natural History Association. In 2001, the couple left Three Rivers to reside in San Luis Obispo.

After Bill passed away in 2009, Denelle returned to Tulare County, residing at Quail Park Retirement Village and, later, Quail Park Memory Care.

Denelle was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Stroh and husband Bill of San Luis Obispo and Kathryn Glenn and husband Chuck of Visalia; grandsons Casey Glenn of Visalia, Steven Ballew of Three Rivers, and Ryan Ballew of San Diego; and great-grandson, Trevor Ballew of Three Rivers.
