Beverly Jane Seymour Cassaday Rice, a former resident of Three Rivers, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. She was one day shy of her 94th birthday.

A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., at the Gateway Church, 1100 S. Sowell St., Visalia. A reception will follow.

Beverly was born in Redlands, Calif., on February 1, 1924, to Basil (Jack) and Myrtle Seymour. Beverly attended elementary school in Southern California, then moved to Visalia in 1937 to live with her father and stepmother Mable.

In 1942, Beverly graduated from Visalia High School (present-day Redwood High School). During her high school years Beverly loved her jobs of usherette and box office cashier at Visalia’s Fox Theatre.

Following high school, Beverly attended the College of the Sequoias. She married Roy Cassaday, her high school sweetheart. Beverly and Roy eloped and were married in Reno, Nev.

During Roy’s enlistment in the U.S. Army, Beverly followed him wherever he was stationed and worked various jobs. After World War II, they returned to Visalia.

Beverly worked for Southern California Gas Company for several years before Roy’s employment required they relocate to Redding. Beverly worked for the City of Redding in the Treasurer’s Office and retired as City Treasurer in 1985.

Following Roy’s death in November 1978 and after her retirement from the City of Redding, Beverly moved home to Visalia.

On February 3, 1990, Beverly married Wally Rice in Visalia. A few years later, Beverly and Wally built a home in Three Rivers.

Beverly was a member of the Three Rivers Woman’s Club, First Baptist Church of Three Rivers, Job’s Daughters International, and the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents and first husband Roy, Beverly was preceded in death by her toddler-son, Patrick, and her second husband of 24 years, Royal Wallace (Wally) Rice Sr. (1923-2014).

Beverly is survived by two children, son Kit Cassaday and daughter Kathlene Whitaker and husband John; Wally’s children, Carrol Ann and Ken Schmidt, Janice and Robert Elayer, and twin sons Leslie and Leland Rice; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
