When the Camp Fire started in the hills near Paradise, Calif., on November 8, 2018, it soon became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. The firestorm burned more than 153,000 acres, killed at least 85 people, and destroyed upwards of 13,000 homes.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of nearby Chico, founded in 1980 and one of the leaders of the craft brewing industry, set out immediately to tackle the relief effort in the best way they knew how. They began to brew Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, a fundraiser beer for Camp Fire relief.

The commitment Sierra Nevada made included brewing the beer and donating 100 percent of the sales to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund, aimed at long-term community rebuilding support. As a part of the relief plan, they asked every brewery in the country, including their direct competitors, to join in the relief effort.

The response exceeded all of Sierra Nevada’s expectations. More than 1,400 breweries signed up to brew Resilience using Sierra Nevada’s recipe. The Chico-based brewery’s suppliers donated ingredients to every one of the breweries nationwide who agreed to participate.

That included local brewmaster Matt McWilliams, whose Three Rivers Brewing Co., signed on immediately to help in Sierra Nevada’s Camp Fire relief efforts.

“So far, we have we have poured more than 200 pints and filled 13 growlers," Matt reported. "That’s almost $1,500 raised and we have plenty more left. We’re proud to do our part. Butte County, we have your back.”

Beer drinkers all across America are doing their part to help California fire victims. So come on down to Three Rivers Brewery and help out, one pint, or growler, at a time.
