On Friday, Nov. 2, Tulare County Sheriff’s Department deputies received a report that a vehicle had been parked in the "No Parking" zone along the roadside near the Bureau of Land Management's Paradise area, six miles up North Fork Drive. The car reportedly had been at the location for a couple of days.
A search of the river below where the car was parked revealed the partially submerged body of a woman who appeared to have been in the water for an extended period of time. There were no obvious signs of injury or foul play.
Prior to the discovery of the deceased woman, a Visalia woman matching the description of the deceased had been reported missing by her family. The victim was identified as Heather Land, 44, of Visalia.
According to her Facebook page, Land was recently employed as a psychiatric technician with the Kaweah Delta Health Care District. The cause of death is pending the results of toxicology tests that can take several weeks to complete.
